Ontdek wat Sabina Nawaz's <em>Jij bent de baas<\/em> leert leiders over duidelijkheid, feedback en vertrouwen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In dit artikel zal ik niet alleen de lessen delen die ik rechtstreeks uit het boek heb gehaald, maar ook reflecties van een leiderschapstraining die ik heb gefaciliteerd met een executive team - waarbij ik een aantal van deze belangrijke inzichten in de praktijk heb gebruikt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En tot slot een korte reflectie over wat dit betekent voor leidinggeven in een VUCA-wereld - een ander onderwerp waar ik vaak over schrijf en waar ik workshops en teamevenementen omheen organiseer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Leiderschap<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Een woord dat richting, daadkracht en resultaten oproept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toch hoor ik in mijn gesprekken met directie- en managementteams net zo vaak twijfel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWaarom lijkt mijn team niet te bewegen?\u201d <br>\u201cIk blijf uitleggen wat ik verwacht.\u201d <br>\u201cZe willen autonomie, maar dan gaat het mis...\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Deze vragen raken aan een inzicht dat Sabina Nawaz scherp verwoordt in <em>Jij bent de baas<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Leiders overschatten vaak hun duidelijkheid en onderschatten hun invloed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Het boek is geen handleiding, het is een spiegel.<br>Het nodigt leiders uit om opnieuw na te denken over wat het echt betekent om \u201cde baas\u201d te zijn: niet degene met de meeste autoriteit, maar degene die het meest verantwoordelijk is voor de groei van anderen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Van expert tot leider<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/from-expert-to-leader.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10177\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>De meeste leiders worden gepromoveerd omdat ze uitblonken in hun vak.<br>Ze leverden resultaten, losten problemen op, kenden de details.<br>Maar zodra ze beginnen te leiden, verschuift de focus:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Succes gaat niet langer over <em>je<\/em> prestaties, maar over het mogelijk maken van <em>anderen\u2019<\/em> prestaties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Controle maakt plaats voor vertrouwen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>De vraag wordt: <strong>Hoe goed worden anderen door jou?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sabina Nawaz noemt dit de overgang van <em>doen<\/em> naar <em>mogelijk maken<\/em>.<br>En dat is waar velen mee worstelen. Leiders die hun identiteit hebben gebouwd op expertise voelen zich vaak blootgesteld in de wereld van menselijk gedrag en samenwerking.<br>Je \u201cexpertstatus\u201d loslaten is niet gemakkelijk. Nawaz adviseert:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cZeg het drie keer vaker dan je denkt dat nodig is.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Echte helderheid ontstaat alleen wanneer drie elementen samenkomen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Richting:<\/strong> Waar gaan we heen?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reden:<\/strong> Waarom is dat belangrijk?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rol:<\/strong> Wat verwacht ik van jou en wat niet?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In leiderschapsteams zie ik vaak vage zinnen als \u201cwe moeten beter samenwerken\u201d die tot evenveel interpretaties leiden als er mensen in de kamer zijn.<br>Iedereen knikt, maar iedereen betekent iets anders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Duidelijkheid <em>is<\/em> leiderschap in actie:<br>Aangeven waar we naartoe gaan, uitleggen waarom en elkaar aanspreken op rollen en verantwoordelijkheden.<br>Het verbaast me nog steeds hoe vaak die rollen onduidelijk blijven, gebaseerd op onuitgesproken aannames die niemand ooit controleert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Feedback: Ongemak als groeiruimte<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"930\" height=\"620\" src=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Why-Feedback-is-the-Key-to-Developing-Future-Leaders.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10175\" style=\"width:334px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Why-Feedback-is-the-Key-to-Developing-Future-Leaders.webp 930w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Why-Feedback-is-the-Key-to-Developing-Future-Leaders-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Why-Feedback-is-the-Key-to-Developing-Future-Leaders-768x512.webp 768w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Why-Feedback-is-the-Key-to-Developing-Future-Leaders-600x400.webp 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 930px) 100vw, 930px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Veel leiders vermijden feedback omdat ze de harmonie willen bewaren.<br>Maar die vermijding leidt tot spanning en onzekerheid.<br>Nawaz onderscheidt drie soorten feedback:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Waardering<\/strong> - iemand laten weten dat ze gezien worden.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Coaching<\/strong> - iemand helpen verbeteren.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Evaluatie<\/strong> - duidelijkheid verschaffen over de verwachtingen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Sterke leiders maken van feedback een voortdurende dialoog - niet \u00e9\u00e9n keer per jaar, maar elke week in kleine porties.<br>In mijn werk noem ik dit <em>feedback fitness<\/em>Hoe vaak oefent een team openheid?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zonder feedback blijft iedereen blind voor zijn eigen blinde vlekken.<br>Zelfs eenvoudige vragen als <em>\u201cWat bedoel je daar precies mee?\u201d<\/em> worden zelden gevraagd.<br>We gaan ervan uit dat we het begrijpen... over blinde vlekken gesproken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Authenticiteit: Menselijkheid als kracht<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"461\" src=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/The-Power-of-Authentic-Leadership-768x461-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10174\" style=\"width:339px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/The-Power-of-Authentic-Leadership-768x461-1.webp 768w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/The-Power-of-Authentic-Leadership-768x461-1-300x180.webp 300w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/The-Power-of-Authentic-Leadership-768x461-1-600x360.webp 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Leiders staan altijd op het podium.<br>Zelfs stilte of een blik wordt ge\u00efnterpreteerd - op kantoor of onderweg, zelfs tijdens een etentje.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authentiek leiderschap is niet alles zeggen wat je denkt; het is <strong>consistent handelen met je waarden<\/strong>.<br>Fouten toegeven. Emoties tonen zonder je kalmte te verliezen.<br>Het zijn woorden en daden die op elkaar zijn afgestemd - natuurlijk, altijd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authenticiteit is geen zwakte, het is de basis van vertrouwen.<br>Het betekent ook het voeren van kritische gesprekken die ongemakkelijk aanvoelen, maar die essentieel zijn voor samenwerking op basis van gedeelde waarden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authenticiteit vereist <strong>psychologische veiligheid<\/strong>Een cultuur waarin mensen durven uit te drukken wat nodig is, of gewoon durven te benoemen wat nodig is. <em>is<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Psychologische veiligheid: De zuurstof van samenwerking<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"474\" height=\"284\" src=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Psychological-Safety.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10179\" style=\"width:338px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Psychological-Safety.webp 474w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Psychological-Safety-300x180.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Teams presteren het best als ze zich veilig voelen om te praten, te twijfelen en fouten te bespreken.<br>Zonder die veiligheid nemen angst en passiviteit de overhand. Nawaz verwoordt het perfect:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cPsychologische veiligheid is de zuurstof van leiderschap.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Leiders cre\u00ebren die zuurstof door:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Luisteren met nieuwsgierigheid, niet met een oordeel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verschillende perspectieven verwelkomen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Constructieve afwijkende meningen waarderen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In uitvoerende teams zie ik vaak dat <em>de echte gesprekken<\/em> zijn degenen die niet worden vastgehouden.<br>Niet per se uit angst voor \u201cde baas\u201d, maar uit angst voor confrontaties of gezichtsverlies.<br>Echte leiders cre\u00ebren ruimte voor die dialogen, want dat is waar groei en duidelijkheid ontstaan.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/18-five-dysfuntions-lencioni-600x441-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10180\" style=\"width:338px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Patrick Lencioni, in <em>De vijf disfuncties van een team<\/em>, noemde dit de basis van goed presterende teams: <strong>vertrouwen<\/strong>.<br>Alleen met vertrouwen kunnen teams <em>constructief conflict<\/em>-Openlijk van mening verschillen over idee\u00ebn, beslissingen of plannen zonder persoonlijke aanvallen.<br>Een discussie, of beter nog een dialoog, gericht op idee\u00ebn en resultaten - niet op ego of het vermijden van ongemak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Als je wilt dat teamleden zich echt inzetten voor een oplossing of beslissing, moet je ervoor zorgen dat constructieve conflicten \u2018normaal\u2019 zijn. En alleen dan kunnen en zullen ze elkaar verantwoordelijk houden.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Zelfzorg is leiderschapszorg<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"856\" height=\"794\" src=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/self-leadership-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10173\" style=\"width:356px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/self-leadership-1.webp 856w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/self-leadership-1-300x278.webp 300w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/self-leadership-1-768x712.webp 768w, https:\/\/salomons.coach\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/self-leadership-1-600x557.webp 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 856px) 100vw, 856px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cJe kunt niet schenken uit een lege beker.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Leiders die altijd \u201caan\u201d staan, verliezen het perspectief.<br>Leiderschap vereist reflectie, rust en herstel.<br>Zelfzorg is niet ego\u00efstisch, het is professioneel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Een uitgeputte leider kan geen energie of vertrouwen uitstralen.<br>Als je niet voor jezelf kunt zorgen, kun je ook niet voor anderen zorgen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zelfzorg is een <strong>leiderschapsprioriteit<\/strong>, Want evenwicht bewaren, handelen vanuit je waarden en anderen inspireren om hetzelfde te doen - dat is de basis van bijna alles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evenwicht betekent niet niets doen. Stilstaan is geen balans, het is angst vermomd als kalmte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Casestudie: Van silo's naar collectief leiderschap<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Een paar maanden geleden werkte ik met het directieteam van een internationale productievestiging - acht leden, drie landen. Slim, gedreven, ervaren... en volledig gefragmenteerd. <br>Hun vraag:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cHoe kunnen we samenwerken als \u00e9\u00e9n leiderschapsteam?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>De start - Harmonie aan de oppervlakte<\/strong><br>In het begin regeerde de beleefdheid. Iedereen knikte, niemand ging diep.<br>Toen ik vroeg: \u201cWat betekent samenwerking voor jou?\u201d kreeg ik acht verschillende antwoorden.<br>De mythe van helderheid op zijn best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>De interventie - \u2018Het effect van mijn leiderschap\u2019<\/strong><br>Ge\u00efnspireerd door Nawaz vroeg ik elke leider om na te denken:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wanneer gedijt mijn team en wat doe ik dan?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wanneer loopt mijn team vast en hoe draag ik daaraan bij?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We plakten hun anonieme antwoorden op de muur.<br>Langzaam ontstonden er patronen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We vermijden moeilijke gesprekken.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We denken dat we luisteren maar wachten gewoon om te spreken.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We houden vast aan controle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We praten over verandering maar veranderen zelden onszelf.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>De erkenning was zowel confronterend als bevrijdend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>De doorbraak - Feedback als teamcompetentie<\/strong><br>In tweetallen oefenden ze het geven van <em>Echt<\/em> feedback.<br>Een directeur zei:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIk waardeer je expertise enorm, maar je onderbreekt anderen vaak. Daardoor haken ze af.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>De ander antwoordde:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDank je wel.
