Hiring managers care about <em>what problem you can solve next<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harvard Business Review recently made this point clear in the context of interviews:<br>the interviewer already knows your background \u2014 repeating it adds no value .<br>The same logic applies to your CV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your CV is not a biography<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A CV is not meant to be fair. It is meant to be <strong>relevant<\/strong>. After job loss, many professionals respond by adding more:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>more detail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>more context<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>more explanations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is understandable \u2014 and counterproductive. What works is <strong>subtraction with intent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start with their need, not your past<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you rewrite a single line, answer this question: <strong>\u201cWhat does this organization <em>urgently<\/em> need from this role?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>recurring words in the vacancy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>phrases like <em>must have<\/em>, <em>critical<\/em>, <em>responsible for<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>signals about context (scale, change, pressure, growth, turnaround)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then rewrite your CV as evidence that you have already operated in <em>that<\/em> reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also wrote a blog post on how to introduce yourself during the job interview: <a href=\"https:\/\/salomons.coach\/en\/after-redundancy-how-to-introduce-yourself-without-explaining-your-career\/\">After redundancy: how to introduce yourself without explaining your career &#8211; salomons.coach<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to rewrite your CV using this logic<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Rewrite your profile summary last<\/strong><br>Only after you know what you are positioning for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bad summary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cSenior leader with 20+ years of experience in operations and transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective summary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOperations leader specialized in stabilizing performance and rebuilding execution discipline in complex, high-pressure environments.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Reorder experience for relevance, not chronology<\/strong><br>Your most relevant role comes first \u2014 even if it wasn\u2019t the most recent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Replace responsibilities with outcomes<\/strong><br>Not <em>what you did<\/em>, but <em>what changed because of you<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Remove anything that doesn\u2019t serve the role<\/strong><br>A strong CV is focused.<br>A long CV is usually defensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">One Simple Test<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If the hiring manager reads only the <strong>top half of page one<\/strong>, can they answer this question?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cWhy should I talk to this person?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If not, rewrite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">AI screening: why your CV must be readable by machines <em>and<\/em> humans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Modern CV screening is increasingly AI-driven, especially in the first selection round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What AI systems typically do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>compare your CV and cover letter against the <strong>job description<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>score alignment based on <strong>keywords, context, and proximity<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>penalize irrelevant experience, even if senior<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reward clarity, structure, and role-specific language<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>What they do <em>not<\/em> do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>infer transferable skills unless clearly stated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>value long explanations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cread between the lines\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This reinforces one hard truth: <strong>A generic CV is not neutral \u2014 it is a disadvantage.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When rewriting your CV:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>mirror the language of the vacancy (without copying)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>surface the most relevant experience early<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>clearly connect outcomes to role requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>remove content that distracts from the match<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A strong CV today is not just persuasive. It is <strong>machine-legible positioning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if AI understands why you fit, the hiring manager will too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI hasn\u2019t made hiring less human. It has made <strong>clarity, focus, and relevance non-negotiable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Thought<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Redundancy often triggers a backward look. A strong CV forces a forward one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are not summarizing a career.
